Healthy Red, White, and Blue Recipes

Ah July!

It’s that time of year again when we celebrate all things red, white and blue! In honor of the upcoming July 4th holiday we’ve rounded up some of our FAVORITE healthy red, white and blue recipes picks that are perfect summertime meals, snacks, and of course DESSERTS. We’ve picked recipes that are gluten free, dairy free, and have a bunch of nutritious seasonally fresh ingredients that are festively colored with red, white and blue.

We hope you enjoy our healthy patriotic roundup, and have a very happy Independence Day!

STRAWBERRY BANANA SMOOTHIE BOWL RECIPE

This strawberry banana smoothie bowl is really just a slight variation in a recipe that we make here in my house almost every day, except there’s a few easy differences. Firstly, it’s served in a bowl, second it’s got some fun toppings on top! The toppings can make it more fun to eat, and also to look at.

BLACKBERRY GOOD MOOD SMOOTHIE

This smoothie is loaded with brain and mood-healthy ingredients. I often make this recipe first thing in the morning and have it throughout the day. What makes this smoothie so brain and mood-healthy is that it’s a rich source of folate (thanks to the blackberries and greens), and a source of brain healthy fat (hemp milk, chia seeds), and of course we love to use protein in our smoothies, and we also love to use prebiotic fibers.

VEGAN PUMPKIN PANCAKES

I love these vegan pumpkin pancakes too. I have tried 10,000 times to make delish and simple (healthy) pancake recipes, and finally I’ve got a WINNER! Not only because this recipe is so easy, but also because the pancakes actually have some wonderful nutritional components too. Oats are the binder in this recipe, but I also used banana and a touch of pureed pumpkin- which add both heart healthy potassium, some gut healthy properties and a whole lot of yum.

PINK PALEO MACAROONS

I love macaroons in particular because they have more healthy fat and protein than other cookies (especially this recipe)- so they’re more filling- and they’re also typically a little lower in sugar, so it doesn’t leave you feeling like you have a sugar high (always a good thing!).

FENNEL SEED ROASTED CAULIFLOWER

I absolutely love cauliflower, especially when it’s roasted with healthy and nutritious herbs and spices, like this easy fennel seed roasted cauliflower. Fennel seed is naturally calming to the digestive tract and may also help to promote hormonal balance. Cumin seed is anther nutritional powerhouse, packed with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory rich nutrients that are also calming for the body. And cauliflower itself has natural detoxifying properties, digestive-healthy fiber and anti-cancer nutrients.

BLUEBERRY ALMOND OATMEAL

This oatmeal has antioxidant-rich blueberries along with chia seeds that are a healthy source of fat, omega 3’s and calcium, along with almonds that contain key minerals and vitamin E that’s great for hair, nails and skin.

GLUTEN FREE RICE CRISPY TREATS

I made these rice crispy treats using One Degree Sprouted Brown Rice Cereal instead of classic rice crispy treats, and used Earth Balance, Soy Free along with gluten and dairy free, Dandies Vegan Marshmallows too. Although I was a little skeptical while making these treats because I used so many subs from the traditional recipe, they turned out absolutely delicious.

SWEET WATERMELON AND CARROT JUICE

This juice includes seasonal and oh-so-delicious watermelon for a little sweet flavor instead of an apple. Watermelon is a rich source of nutrients like anti-cancer lycopene and magnesium. Magnesium is a heart-healthy nutrient that is also an electrolyte and can help to promote hydration. Magnesium is also a wonderful nutrient that can also help to promote muscle relaxation and restful sleep. Watermelon is also a source of L-citrulline, a nutrient that may help muscles to recover faster from exercise; and to boot watermelon is a rich source of potassium that’s also heart-healthy as well!
