9 Healthy Snacks for Shows and Events

I’ll admit it, I’m kind of a theater geek.

Every time I go to NYC, one of the first things I do (besides head to my favorite shops down in Soho) is see what’s new on Broadway and plan what shows I want to see. Last week I got tickets to the play Summer (which is AMAZING by the way), and while I was standing on the concession line I was pretty bummed to see the dismal selection of sugary and processed snacks they had available. I decided to play it safe with a bottle of water, and skip the snacks for now, but it got me thinking of what “contraband” snacks I could have snuck in with me. If you enjoy going to the theater, movies, or even sports games, I urge your to stay away from the Butterfingers and M&Ms and prepare yourself ahead of time with these 9 healthy snacks to sneak into your next show!

1. Biena Chickpea Snacks

Chickpeas are a diet staple for some of the healthiest populations including diets from the Middle East, Mediterranean and parts of Africa. Biena Chickpea Snacks pack a potent punch of protein, vitamins, fiber and minerals, making them a perfectly satisfying crunchy treat.

2. Skinny Crisps

Skinny Crisps are delicious gluten-free low-carb crackers that are baked in Boulder, CO. They are made with awesome ingredients like  ground almonds, chickpea flour, ground golden flax seeds, and olive oil and come in an assortment of flavors like Toasty Onion, White Sesame, Say Cheese, The Whole Shebang (like an “everything” bagel), Cinnamon Crisps, and Brownie Crisps making them the perfect healthy snack to sneak into your next show for anyone.

There is no snack more synonymous with entertainment then popcorn.  The problem is that traditional  movie theater popcorn has alarming amounts of fat, salt and calories in even the smallest sizes. Buddha Bowl Popcorn air pops its organic kernels limited the amount of unwanted fats and calories. They also use healthier oils like coconut, avocado oil or ghee.

I love a great trail mixes because they are a great compilation of omega fatty acids, protein, vitamins, and minerals, and they’re also a great source of antioxidants and fiber. The problem is that most store bought trail mixes are loaded with added sugar and artificial ingredients. Essential Living Organic Antioxidant Trail Mix has no added sweeteners or additives, and has nutritious superfoods like goji berries and pumpkin seeds that are full of flavor.

6. Paleonola

Not all granola is created equal! Most granolas you find down the grocery aisle have huge amounts of sugars, and are filled with inflammatory processed ingredients like gluten and soy lecithin, GROSS. Paleonola is a grain free alternative, that won’t leave you with a sugar crash. They use a non GMO blend of nuts, seeds, and some dried fruit that is seriously delicious.
