I’m so excited to start the travel section of our blog! Because we’re going to some pretty awesome places, exploring and trying – and I want to share all of our findings with you.

On a recent trip to Martha’s Vineyard, we searched the island high and low (east and west) for the best places to eat, stay and Om- and we’ve got it all here for you.

Martha’s Vineyard is SUCH a special place, and somewhere we will absolutely return to visit. There’s SO much to do, so much to see and so much to do- especially for the active/health-minded person (and even if you’re not- keep reading).

Let’s dive in!

Where to eat:

We found WONDERFUL food  on island, here’s a brief rundown of where we ate!

Breakfast/Lunch:

RightFork Diner: This is a MUST visit. Serving locally sourced food, with an awesome view of an airfield with old planes coming in and out. They were able to accommodate my many food allergies, and though I didn’t order them, drooled over the gluten free pancakes on the menu.

Lucky Hanks: Lucky Hanks was a great find- we weren’t expecting to find it on the way to pick up our car at the Park and Ride in Edgartown (the parking is a NIGHTMARE in Edgartown… so the Park and Ride was a great find!). That morning I had grass-fed steak and veggies for breakfast, along with fruit, and my gluten free oats that I brought with me.

Among the Flowers Cafe: This was a super cute, in-town spot. They have EVERYTHING you could want on the menu- from pancakes, to salads, to smoothies. It was delicious. Get there early and put your name in, it fills up quickly, and early!

Black Sheep Cafe: We absolutely LOVED the Black Sheep and went there almost every single day at least once. They have delicious ready-prepared sandwiches, salads, vegetables (my fave), salmon, and more. This is definitely not one to miss!

Waterside Market: We went to the Waterside Market in Vineyard Haven one day for lunch. It was one of the only spots I could find around VH with a menu that I liked- and it was good! They had plenty of salads to choose from, and even had gluten free bread for sandwich making, and their breakfast options looked DELISH as well. Definitely worth stopping by if you’re in Vineyard Haven and looking for a breakfast or lunch option.

Dinner:

Behind the Bookstore: Of all the wonderful places we went, this was my absolute favorite. They were extremely accommodating, the food was locally sourced (actually most of the food on the Vineyard was locally sourced which I was psyched about), and honestly this was the most delicious meal I had. I ordered wild salmon with wild mushrooms, japanese sweet potato and roasted asparagus. I’m still dreaming of this meal.

Port Hunter: Port Hunter is right in Edgartown as well and has a really great, and varied menu. Unfortunately they weren’t really prepared to handle my food allergies, but if one doesnt have any avoids- they’re a really fantastic place (they tried really hard to be super accommodating I will say!); at Port Hunter I had wild caught flounder over a kale salad with roasted brussels sprouts. It was yummy, but would have liked to have been able to order other things on the menu!

Outermost Inn: This was a really special evening. Outermost Inn is a fantastically beautiful spot in Aquinnah (about 40 minutes from Edgartown). They have seatings a few times an evening, so while you’re waiting to sit for dinner, you can enjoy the gorgeous sunset with a cocktail overlooking a sprawling lawn- which the night we were there was crawling with wildlife– deer, bunnies, hawks. Dinner is a pre-fixe menu, which was hard for me, but they scrambled to find options that would work and adjusted the menu items to fit my needs, which was really wonderful. Outermost grows much of their own produce, so I had a gorgeous salad with local shaved vegetables, and wild salmon with mushrooms and broccolini. For dessert they made me a berry bowl with fresh (from the garden) mint, along with a homemade coconut macaroon. If you’re going to Outermost and can eat absolutely anything- you will have plenty of options- Paul had lobster risotto to start, and the most delicious grassfed ribeye steak with local roasted veggies; and for dessert- a chocolate torte that was out of this world (I had a bite :)).

State Road Restaurant: This gem is located mid-island, in Tisbury. What a delicious, fun, cozy spot with loads of fresh and local (and when I say local I mean it’s grown on premises) veggies and ingredients. I have heard the Obama’s also love this spot- I see why! We shared grilled octopus and I had a YUMMY big greens salad, followed by the roasted 1/2 chicken (a frequent for me) and Paul had the State Road Burger- that comes with onion marmalade on it. For dessert, State Road makes their own drool-worthy chocolate.

Sweets & treats:

Chilmark Chocolates: Chilmark Chocolates is an establishment so small that it’s easy to miss, but so good that you won’t want to miss it. I’m a chocolate connoisseur and honestly, I’ve never had better dark chocolate dipped apricots. We tried so many of their delicious chocolates- and I didn’t have a single one that I didn’t love. You’ll want to check the hours on this cute little shop because it’s not open very long or very often!

Murdick’s Fudge: No I couldn’t eat a lot of it, but YES it was GOOD. We had the butter pecan and the maple fudge, definitely won’t want to miss this one!

Where to stay:

We stayed at The Sydney– right in Edgartown, a Lark property. The location was fantastic, and the room was very nice, however I would have liked a few more amenities given the prices. But overall it was a lovely, well appointed spot.

Where to Om:

Yoga on the Vine: I went to Yoga on the Vine because it was easy to get to, and it was great! I had Jillian as an instructor and loved each one of her classes. You might want to sign up ahead of time because it can get pretty packed!

The Yoga Barn: Out in Chilmark, we were going to go to the Yoga Barn but it proved to be too far away for the few days we were there. I’ve heard nothing but wonderful things, so next time it’s a must.

Where to hike:

We did lots of walks around Edgartown, and we also walked around Vineyard Haven. The places we would have liked to hike in more completion were Menemsha Hills and Aquinnah Cliffs. There are other spots to hike around MV- but make sure to bring bug spray and check for ticks!

We’ll keep expanding on this one as we go, but truly, it was a magical experience!
